Liz Forrest has a longstanding interest in family history following a school project in 1960-something !! and since 1993 has been chasing family connections in Wester Ross – a veritable forest of trees, branches and roots.
Liz’s first degree was in Geological Sciences and so can be said to build up the history of Wester Ross from the bedrock upwards. After working in the oil industry for several years, Liz moved to Kinlochewe with husband Tom. She is in the closing stages of a Masters Degree in Scottish Studies from Aberdeen University where many of the thematic-based courses have enabled her to tease out the complex social history of the area.
Sources available to Liz include estate rentals; muster rolls; census returns; parish registers (and the fascinating annotations which don’t make it onto the internet); and the all important access to local knowledge through her contacts.
